So I've been sitting here the past two-three weeks counting down, and even now I'm counting down.
The group chat explodes every time we hear something new from our Uni in Japan. I'm trying really hard not to stress over forgetting this or that or not being prepared enough in general because I know I won't be prepared. Nothing can prepare me for spending a whole year in a foreign country completely across the world from where I am now.
I have never lived away from home. The longest I've stayed anywhere that wasn't home was a week and only once or twice was that without family.
The group chat was discussing portable internet and what they should do. Buy a SIM card, prepaid phone, pocket wifi, or something. I had made up my mind to just be without and rely on what wifi I could use when I could. My dorm room will have wifi, and the campus has internet. My reasoning was people lived without cell phones let alone smartphones before so why not take this opportunity to get away. Or at the very least give my peace of mind a worthy excuse to not always be looking at my phone/computer like society seems to demand. Don't get me wrong, I spend my free time on my computer or phone, but most of the world is constantly messaging, demanding responses. It's just created such a demanding environment.
Sometimes I'm pretty sure the world is in too much of a rush, and I'm growing far too old far too quickly. I always have.
I like TED Talks. This post is a bit wordy because I was watching one of those and I haven't really been writing like I usually do.
I got my orientation schedule and an email from my dorm RA. This week is my last week of work, and I sent off for my VISA Wednesday of last week. I'm due for a freak-out lol, and I'm glad to be getting this funk out of the way. I'm pretty sure my mum is sick of me constantly reminding her I'm leaving soon, but I hope that by the time I actually leave all this constant reminder stuff will help her not have such a hard time when I'm finally leaving xD
Once I'm in Japan, I will try to do weekly or monthly updates when something interesting happens (i.e. a trip). Otherwise, I will be trying to keep my YouTube upload schedule (Tuesdays and Fridays) and generally just post pictures and stuff on my other social media. I may hate the way technology has molded people's expectations, but I'm still a child of the internet <3
