I'm Going to Japan

Hello all,

This is the beginning of a HUGE! adventure.
But first, let me introduce myself.
My name is Dakota. I was born in America in the state of Georgia in a town that's roughly 1.5-2 hours from a beach. I've never been a huge fan of beaches though, I spend most of my time the past several years inside. My hobbies include making content for YouTube, playing video games, watching YouTube videos and anime, reading books and manga, writing, and listening to music of course.
My favorite food is pizza. I'm a pretty picky eater and don't eat much of a variety of foods which is something I hope will change over the next year plus.
So recently I was officially accepted into my university’s program to study in Nagoya Japan! I’m super excited and have been filling out ALOT of paperwork. There’s still more to come, many meetings and things to buy such as plane tickets, luggage, appropriate clothing, as well as paying rent and buying food while I’m there school supplies, and other expenses. There’s a lot to see and do in Japan and while first and foremost I will be a student it is still an Academic year I will be spending in a whole other country that I hope to use to learn as much as possible in the process. I’ve always had a love for Asian culture, specifically Japan. I am so grateful for the opportunity to experience a culture so much different from my own firsthand and learn the language in the native speaking country. So far I have applied to eleven different scholarships, it was a pretty wild first month of classes for me this semester.
I've spoken to passionate people, gone out of my comfort zone to get things done, and discovered so many new things about Japan already. There is so much to do and through this blog I hope to share my experiences.
Five months until August, the plane ride and airport will be the first obstacle.

I Am In Japan!

Good evening! It's currently Sunday night and about 10pm at the time I am typing this. The past few days have been a roller coaster, and the only thing on my mind has been trying my best to document it all. I keep getting little snippets of video, I just can't do it all justice. Japan is already a super strange and interesting place. I'm American so everything is always strange but here's a small list of oddities I have noticed over the past two-ish days. -Having to ask for bags at the supermarket -A lot more floor-oriented furniture -Pachinkos -Everyone talks low and quick -There is a remote for my lights (pretty neat) -Crunchyroll is restricted in Japan -Convenient store food is actually pretty amazing Honestly, I woke up feeling terrible. I was sick, homesick, and miserable. But, like all good daughters, I listened to my mommy and talked to some of the people I traveled here with. I was a sobbing puking mess, but it was okay. I'm okay. I'm not going to lie ...
